What is an RMG Licence?

RMG stands for Real Money Gaming. If your business offers paid competitions, raffles, or prize draws—anything that offers cash or prizes redeemable for cash—it falls under this category.

To advertise these types of competitions on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram), you need an RMG Licence. Without it, your account is at risk of being suspended or permanently banned. Basically, an RMG Licence is Meta saying: “We know this business is legit.”

Why it matters

Many competition businesses rely on Facebook and Instagram as a primary driver of traffic and sales. But Meta has become increasingly strict about ads that promote competitions or prize-based activity—especially if they’re not pre-approved under their Real Money Gaming policies.

Without an RMG Licence, your ad account is vulnerable.
Once suspended, recovery can be slow or impossible—and in the meantime, you lose access to one of your most valuable revenue channels.

Why Do Meta Require an RMG License?

Meta classifies paid competitions as a form of real money gaming. To keep Meta users safe from harmful or false business practices, Facebook requires an RMG license. While it may seem unnecessary for competition and raffle businesses, an RMG license ultimately keep Meta users, and your customers, safe from the actually harmful business practices. As a competition and raffle business owner, that means your ads are subject to a special review process, which asks you to:

  • Confirm your competition is legal in the UK
  • Explain how you’ll prevent underage users or people from restricted countries entering
Share the domain where your competitions are hosted
  • Provide a legal opinion from a qualified UK solicitor

It’s not just a formality. You need the right answers and documentation, or your application won’t get through.

What getting it right looks like

When done properly, RMG approval unlocks your ability to:

  • Run paid ads on Facebook and Instagram without fear of suspension
  • Confidently scale your advertising spend
  • Build trust with Meta by showing you’re a compliant, professional operator

It also gives you peace of mind. You’ll know that your account is protected, you can run real money gaming ads, and your growth won’t be derailed by an avoidable ban.

The good news?

You don’t need to figure all this out on your own.

Zap can manage the full RMG application process on your behalf. We’ve handled hundreds of these applications, so we know exactly what Meta’s looking for. That means fewer delays, clearer answers, and a better chance of first-time approval.

We’ll also connect you with a solicitor who specialises in competition businesses, to make sure your terms, conditions, and privacy policies are watertight—helping you meet Facebook’s requirements and protect your business at the same time.

Getting RMG approved isn’t optional—it’s essential.

It’s the key to unlocking one of the most powerful marketing platforms available to competition businesses. And with Meta continuing to crack down on unlicensed accounts, getting ahead of this now could save you time, stress, and lost revenue later.
